GAME START: GAME DESIGN LESSONS FOR YOUR VIDEO GAME

Thais Weiller

Videogames are one of the most prominent communication media, with investment and annual revenue in the area already surpassing that of movies in Hollywood, and it is estimated that more than 67% of North Americans play with some frequency. The daily participation of this large percentage of the population gave video games not only a prominent place in culture, but also a social role, considering that they can influence the way these players process information and face the world.

“Game Start” explores how the language of videogames is characterized, its evolution in relation to other games and its current format, analyzing the six most relevant design elements in player interaction: objectives; feedback; difficulty level; interaction/feeling of control; narrative/aesthetics; socialization; personal image.
