What contributes to the creation of a video game? What are the elements that underlie the gaming experience? Can a video game be considered an artistic expression? It is in an attempt to answer these questions that the volume "Silent Hill 2: The Fog and the Darkness" is born.


From the series of video games by Konami, "Silent Hill 2" has been chosen as an example for an in-depth analysis of the dynamics that make up the game: unexpected inspirations, analogies with culture and myth, psychological implications, the genius of game designers, and other elements have all been examined here one by one. The goal is to closely examine the video game to understand if what one sees can be considered art.


Considering art as a multi-level experience, the culmination of which is found in the transmission of emotion, the author intends to take the reader by the hand and lead them on a journey into the subtle art that hides within the mists, as well as in the darkness, of "Silent Hill."
