“And Romario signs for Mérida.” With this phrase, Michael Robinson announced the release of PC Fútbol 4.0 on television. In just six words, it captures the essence of Dinamic Multimedia’s football management game: a game in which you could take control of any Spanish football team, no matter how small, and lead it to glory.
This was an era when Barcelona and Real Madrid were beginning to become the giants they are today, yet there was still room for mid-table clubs and underdogs to rise up against the established order. Promanager looks back on more than ten years of creating Spain’s greatest video game franchise, PC Fútbol. It managed to stand out at a time when the Spanish gaming industry was at rock bottom, thanks to a simple concept combining a database (compiled with contributions from Gaby Ruiz, Maldini, and others), a management game, and a simulator.
What Dinamic Multimedia never anticipated was that its product would become one of Spain’s most popular pastimes of the 1990s. Even today, it can still become a trending topic whenever it receives a mention in the media.
