DEMOSCENE - THE AMIGA YEARS: VOL. 1 (1984-1993)

Christophe Boucourt

"Demoscene: The Amiga Years" reflects the creation of the best demos and the history of the most emblematic and well-known groups in the demoscene. Explore numerous demo images across over 450 pages and contributions from "sceners." This book constitutes the first volume, covering the years 1984 to 1993, featuring about 90 demos, including the most famous and popular ones. Uncover the technical, graphical, and musical evolution of Amiga demos throughout this period in Volume 1 (spanning 1984-1993), highlighting the legendary works of groups such as Kefrens, The Silents, or Sanity.

After a historical overview of the origin of demos and the demoscene, the narrative delves into the first demos, including "The Juggler" and "Boing," followed by the Megademos era featuring RSI, Alcatraz, Kefrens, and Rebels. The journey continues with the first slideshow featuring J.O.E (Scoopex/Red Sector Inc.). Static, one of the founders, explores the creation and history of the Rebels group. The exploration of the first Trackmo, "Mental Hangover" from Scoopex, which revolutionized demo styles in the early '90s, and the group's history from 1988 to 2000. Other surprises include Budbrain Productions, winner of the Amiga conference in 1990 with its megademo, repeated with Budbrain Megademo 2, and insights from Diablo, one of its members. Notable mentions go to Anarchy, featuring contributions from members like Dan, 4Mat, or Facet, and Razor 1911 with its demo "Voyage."

The Norwegians of Pure Metal Code present their demo "Alpha and Omega." Journey to Hungary with the group Majic 12 and its "Ray of Hope" demo, with insights into the conditions under which this demo was created. PGCS shares the story of the "Odyssey" demo and its 5 disks, an intergalactic epic leading to another demo called "Hardwired," a The Silents/Crionics production featuring contributions from Jesper Kyd, Mikael Balle, and Murphy.
