Apokalypsis is a series of essays dedicated to the works of FromSoftware, conceived, written, and supervised by Michele Poggi, better known as Sabaku No Maiku.

For the second volume, we could only return to the origins, to the sorrowful lands of Lordran, exploring the game that ultimately established FromSoftware as one of the most influential teams in contemporary video game development. Introducing Apokalypsis: Soul, an extensive interpretative compendium examining the themes, characters, and events of the first Dark Souls, exploring their meanings and nuances in light of the revelations contained in the second and third instalments of the series.

It therefore offers a comprehensive perspective on the work, naturally including the elements introduced in Artorias of the Abyss. The texts in this volume are entirely original and previously unpublished. Written by Michele together with his collaborator Mirko La Marca, they unfold across seven chapters, each introduced by a striking illustration that highlights its subject matter.

After tracing a chronology of Lordran in the chapter entitled "Time", following the sequence of events that led to the birth of the Age of Fire and the arrival of the Undead protagonist, the book moves on to an analysis of the concept of "Soul" in Dark Souls, examining how the world changed after the First Flame was kindled and how it is being transformed by its gradual fading.

The chapters "Death" and "Life" are respectively dedicated to the deeds of Nito, the Gravelord, and the Witch of Izalith, her daughters, and their research into Pyromancy and the Chaos Flame. In a book built around oppositions and dichotomies, "Light" and "Darkness" are chapters devoted to the deeds of Gwyn and his children, as well as the role of the Furtive Pygmy and his descendants, bearers of the Dark Soul.

Finally, "Embers" examines the cultures of Lordran's human kingdoms and the characters whose paths cross that of the Chosen Undead.
