For a long time, video games have proliferated freely and wildly, developing and growing without criteria, spontaneously, in an entropic manner. Over the last fifteen years, scholars and theorists from various disciplinary fields have taken an interest in this unpredictable medium, trying to frame it, interpret it, and assign it analytical categories. After an initial phase of studying interactive works through the filter of other established disciplines, the aesthetics of video games are finally taking shape to develop their autonomy. This work aims to delineate its boundaries and analyze its essential aspects.
