THE GAME: PATTERN AND METAPHOR OF THE MEDIA SOCIETY

Britta Neitzel, Caja Thimm, Christoph Klimmt, Heidemarie Schumacher, Karin Bruns, Leonhard Korbel, Lukas Wosnitza, Martin Sallge, Sebastian Klement, Tobias Bevc, Udo Thiedeke, Winfred Kaminski

Today, in the context of digital media, the game takes on a new meaning as a topos and as a metaphor. Games become 'game worlds' and thus a metaphor for new, rapidly developing parallel worlds, e.g. in the complex worlds of online games or virtual worlds. Play is to be understood in terms of cultural theory and is increasingly becoming a metaphor for human behavior and communicative structures. The volume contains contributions to the theory and practice of the game from the point of view of interdisciplinary research.
