Kiyoshi Shigematsu (重松 清)
This grand epic is the first work by the author, who has long explored the meaning of life through works such as Before the Day and On the Hill of Cassiopeia, to be set in a world of "sometime, somewhere."
The protagonist is Kaim, an immortal warrior who has lived for a thousand years. Throughout his journey, Kaim watches over the fleeting lives of people, filled with both anger and sorrow over the wars that have ravaged the world. Despite his own immortality, he deeply empathizes with the short lives of others, cherishing their fleeting existence.
In this work, the author, Kiyoshi Shigematsu, continues his wonderful hymn to life, which has been the hallmark of his writing. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, approached the author to offer the idea of the "thousand-year memories sleeping within the heart of the protagonist" for the game Lost Odyssey. The cover art for this book has been specially drawn by Takehiko Inoue, the renowned artist of Vagabond.
