If it’s fair to say that without the chicken there would be no egg, we can also say that without a gorilla there would be no plumber. Nintendo’s most famous character, Mario, didn’t even have a name when he first appeared in a video game. He was simply called Jumpman, and the game was Donkey Kong, one of the biggest successes in arcade history.

Over time, Donkey Kong went from villain to hero and starred in numerous games across different genres, firmly securing his place among the greatest video game characters.
