On the fringes of the major Japanese role-playing game (J-RPG) series, more confidential developers work, but are just as important for the evolution of video games. Among them, the founders of tri-Ace have always carried the vision of a more dynamic branch than the canons of the genre. It's these three souls, aided by a few other well-known ones, that spawned one of the most mystical licenses out there: Valkyrie Profile . Exported very late and not always recognized at its fair value, this series has three very singular games, united by an effective and atypical combat concept. But if only one of them deserves to be dissected, it is undoubtedly the original episode. In many ways Valkyrie Profile first of the name, later re-canonized under the subtitle Lenneth , is a hard-to-reach and experimental curiosity. Under the rough exterior of its combat system and its codified progression, it nevertheless offers a dense and engaging narrative. Its main ingredients also include a good dose of Norse mythology as well as a complex storyline that will spread its wings in the following episodes.
