Violence in computer games is a much-discussed phenomenon in digitized societies. But to what extent is computer game violence institutionally constituted as a social problem? Jan Husemann examines the problematization of violence in computer games over a period of 30 years. In order to reveal negotiated problem patterns, he evaluates violent computer games using a violence analysis model and compares the results to a problem pattern analysis carried out in parallel. This enables him to present an exemplary career path and at the same time shows the importance of institutional problem patterns in the constitution of social problems.
