For Tex Murphy, the last of the old-school P.I.s, good paying jobs are like a properly prepared steak: medium rare. So when he’s hired under mysterious circumstances to stake out a steakhouse, he ignores a whole parade of red flags and takes the case.
The job sounds easy enough: wait for the client to show up for a meeting, watch what happens, be ready to step in if things don't go 'as planned'. There are just a few minor concerns. Tex hasn’t met the client and has no way to contact her. She didn’t tell him who she’s meeting or why. And what exactly does ‘as planned’ mean?
