“You have a new message…” S!CK Magazine 030 dives back into the making of Hotline Miami—a subversive indie classic—across a 276-page video game volume written alongside some of the artists, composers, and sound designers who helped create the games.


Across a 100+ page feature, it traces shared influences flowing between creators like an electric current: exploring the psychedelic art of El Huervo (art & soundtrack), digging into the cinematic influences behind the music with Carpenter Brut (soundtrack), examining the raw intensity of the sound effects with Jordan Fehr (sound design), and revisiting the earliest design and soundtrack roots with Jasper Byrne (playtest & soundtrack) and Eirik Suhrke (soundtrack).


The issue also looks at “cross-culture” through video games, featuring conversations around works like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Tunic, Mediterranea Inferno, Mirror's Edge (including music by Solar Fields plus collaborators Mattias Häggström and Tobias Hogstrand), and Ultros (with Ratvader). For this edition, they also collaborated with ten artists—Aleksey Rico, Gauthier Colin, The Dead Pegasus, Matt Kehler, Synopsies, Milena Gontard, Nicolas Bazin, Oscar Sidoff Rydelius, Quentin Marroule, and Sevan Grand—who contributed original creations throughout the long-form articles.
