"Machinima: From Video Games to Video Art" collects eight unpublished contributions for Italy by internationally renowned scholars on the theme of the intersection between videogames and contemporary art. Specifically, the authors examine machinima, an artistic practice that consists in the production of movies through a video game.
Since the second half of the nineties, artists and directors have dealt with this medium, giving life to an aesthetic in the balance between video art, experimental cinema and digital animation. Machinima. From video game to video art is divided into two parts. The first, Theories, offers an overview of the topic. The second, Pratiche, presents four case studies focused on the works of as many artists. The book is mainly aimed at videogame, contemporary art and new media scholars.
