TWhat does it mean to “exhibit games in a museum”?

In fact, a movement is currently underway around the world to reconsider games from an artistic perspective. For example, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York views games as “playable design” and “interactive artistic experiences,” and since 2012 has officially included video games among the works it collects.

With this exhibition, we therefore seek to reevaluate historical simulation games, particularly the Nobunaga’s Ambition series developed by Koei Tecmo Games, a game company founded in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture, within an artistic context.

Rather than viewing games merely as entertainment or commercial products, the exhibition evaluates them as “works” expressed through sophisticated design. By considering the interactive experiences gained through playing as an “artistic experience = viewing,” it explores the artistic qualities of games.
