This work is born from a necessity. The need to rescue a cultural genre like video games; a cultural genre that excites, that entertains, that is a vehicle for ideas, expressions, that frustrates us, makes us laugh and makes us cry; a cultural genre that, despite what one might think at first, guiding us by an erroneous sense of the obvious, is, above all, a humanism.
Hence the urgency of marking distances with a certain sector of video game culture that has become an ideal breeding ground for elitism, voracious consumerism and contemporary intolerance in all its forms, from misogyny and machismo to racism. until reaching the phobia of the entire LGTBQI + movement. An intolerance that every day has more outlets in the conservative political discourse and the new alternative right , which is seen in the assault on the Capitol or every time a video game studio decides to create a female protagonist who is not a simple sexual icon, moving away his characters from the normativity of the body or wanting to tell stories that go beyond the more traditional paradigm of the medium.
Fuck Gamers: Voices Against an Empty Identity is both a call to action and an act of resistance, both a premeditated offense and a shield against undesirable influences. It is, in other words, a way to shake the dust off your shoulders.
